Equal Employment Opportunity

TVA’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy

TVA provides equal opportunity in employment to all employees and applicants; and prohibits discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex (i.e. pregnancy, gender identity, or sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 and over), mental and/or physical disability, genetic information, and reprisal. TVA develops comprehensive affirmative action programs designed to overcome the effects of past or present employment policies that may operate as barriers to equal opportunity.

Equal Opportunity Compliance staff

TVA's Equal Opportunity Compliance (EOC) staff is responsible for providing counseling services to employees and applicants and administering the equal employment opportunity (EEO) complaint procedure. The TVA Senior Manager of EOC makes final agency decisions of formal complaints of discrimination and has authority to order appropriate corrective actions.

Filing a complaint

If, as a TVA employee or applicant or other aggrieved individual, you believe you have been discriminated against because of race, color, religion, sex (i.e., pregnancy, gender identity, or sexual orientation), nation origin, age (40 and over), mental and/or physical disability, genetic information, and reprisal you have a right to seek corrective action by filing a complaint.

You must consult with an EEO counselor prior to filing a complaint in order to try to informally resolve the matter.  You must initiate contact with a counselor within 45 calendar days of the date of the matter alleged to be discriminatory or, in the case of a personnel action, within 45 calendar days of the effective date of the action.

An alternative dispute resolution program (mediation) is available for both the pre-complaint (counseling) process and the formal complaint process.

EEO counselors must conduct a final interview within 30 days of initial contact, unless the counselee and TVA agree in writing to an extension of counseling for up to an additional 60 calendar days as pursuant to 29 CFR 1614.105 (e).
