TVA Identifies Preferred Route for Rickman Transmission Line

July 02, 2015

RICKMAN, Tenn. ― The Tennessee Valley Authority has identified a preferred route for a new transmission line that would increase power reliability and allow for industrial growth in Rickman and surrounding areas served by Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation.

The new transmission line will connect to TVA’s West Cookeville-Livingston 161-kV transmission line just south of Crawford Chapel Road and will extend east/southeast crossing Hardy Chapel Road and Tennessee State Highway 111 near Oak Hill Road. The line will then turn south and end at Upper Cumberland EMC’s proposed substation west of Rickman Road near Midway Circle in Rickman.

The route was selected after input from the public and a review of social, environmental, and engineering factors to ensure the least impact on the area. A National Environmental Policy Act review is also pending.

TVA will meet with property owners along the proposed right-of-way to obtain easements for construction, operation and maintenance of the line. The project will require new right-of-way easements, but property owners would still own the property and be compensated for the easements at fair market value.

TVA is expected to begin surveys in fall 2015.

A map of the project and additional information are available on the TVA website at www.tva.com/transmissionprojects.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving nine million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
