TVA Employee Giving Campaign Tops $2 Million for Charities

March 20, 2017

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ― Tennessee Valley Authority employees, retirees and contractors raised more than $2 million for hundreds of nonprofit organizations as part of the 2016 Combined Federal Campaign.

“TVA’s commitment to CFC is a great example of how we take our mission of service to heart,” said Doug Perry, chair of the Greater Chattanooga Area campaign.

“And it’s not just about money being raised,” added Justin Maierhofer, chair of the Smoky Mountain Region CFC. “During the campaign, there were thousands of service hours spent on behalf of local charities that need our help.”

In addition to the funds raised by the 2016 campaign, TVA employees donated more than 8,000 hours of service to nonprofits across the Tennessee Valley through “Day of Caring” events. More than a thousand employees across TVA participated.

TVA”s largest CFC areas are in Greater Chattanooga, the Smoky Mountain Region in Knoxville, The Tennessee Region in Nashville and middle Tennessee, and Muscle Shoals in Alabama.

TVA campaign totals for each of these regions are:

  • Greater Chattanooga Area: $1,493,745
  • Smoky Mountain Region: $388,533
  • Tennessee Region: $98,118
  • Muscle Shoals: $63,798

The Combined Federal Campaign is the only approved workplace giving program for federal employees, including TVA.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving more than 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
