Upstream/Downstream Berm Construction Underway

OCTOBER 5, 2017—Construction activities remain highly visible at Boone Dam as trucks roll onto the site hauling loads of stone from local quarries for the upstream berm construction. Already nearly 4,000 tons of stone has been placed on the upstream berm. The new rock will add stability to the earthen embankment. Work is also underway on the downstream side of the dam where some instruments are being relocated in preparation for the new construction. The fortified berms are the first part of construction plans that call for widening the top of the dam to create an improved working surface for cutoff wall construction.
