One Year Later: Successful Seedlings
The planting of watershed seedlings is one of the successful “growing” projects initiated at Boone Dam since the repair project was announced nearly a year ago.
In partnership with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), TVA donated approximately 500 seedlings to Dennis Scheer, a member of both the Boone Watershed and Boone Lake Association boards. Planted by volunteers at Beaver Creek, Sinking Creek and Boone Lake, the seedlings are creating future fish habitats while helping prevent erosion.
Scheer reports he’s seen a 90 to 95 percent success rate with the seedlings. In photo at above, TWRA’s John Hammonds and TVA’s Shannon O’Quinn show some of the button bush, water hickory and bald cyprus tree seedlings prior to planting.
