New Project Work Will Provide Enhanced View of Geology

FEBRUARY 21, 2017—The Boone Dam project will be installing additional sensors and conducting exploratory drilling on the earthen embankment over the coming weeks. The information obtained from these activities—combined with our existing sensor network and the data we collected from last fall’s lake level fluctuation—will give us a clearer view of the geology under the embankment and help us further refine our repair plan to ensure it remains safe and effective.

Safety remains our overriding priority, and the embankment remains stable. Because of the narrow workspace involved, some of the existing drilling and grouting equipment will be temporarily relocated so we can more safely and quickly perform the sensor installation and exploratory drilling.

Since the beginning of the project, we’ve committed to making the necessary adjustments to our project plan to safely complete the repair of the embankment as quickly as possible.  We’re still on target for our goal of returning the lake to its normal operating levels between 2020 and 2022; this new work will help ensure that we get there.
