Memphis Regional Megasite Power Supply

Fayette and Haywood Counties, Tennessee

The state of Tennessee requested TVA plan for and provide a power supply to the state-owned Megasite that would facilitate the future development of that site.  At this time, the state has not identified any tenants that would occupy the Megasite.  As such, TVA proposes to site and plan for routes capable of supporting both a 6.5-mile 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and a 3.4-mile 500-kV transmission line power supply option.  Once the state has identified an industrial tenant that would occupy the Megasite, TVA would only construct either a 161-kV or a 500-kV double-circuit loop transmission line.

Both power supply options would run between an existing TVA transmission line and the Megasite.  By planning for both potential voltages the normal process time for siting, constructing, and placing a TL into operation would be reduced allowing the State to attract potential industrial tenants ready to find placement for their operations.

TVA proposes to purchase approximately 158 acres of right-of-way (ROW) easements that provide the necessary rights to construct, operate, and maintain the proposed TL route.  These easements would accommodate various widths to allow TVA the flexibility to provide the voltage needed at the Megasite.
