Waste Heat Recovery

Project Description

This project will utilize waste heat conversion technologies to recover waste heat from an industrial process to generate a total of approximately 5 MW of clean electricity. TVA seeks to complete this project through leveraging funds with large industrial customer(s). This initiative may result in more than one project depending on the level of matching funds from industrial customer proposals, which will be competed through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process.

Project Implementation

An RFP will be issued to large industrial customers located in the TVA service area that are TVA directly served and local power company served. TVA will provide general technical oversight and financial assistance with the project capital funding, with progress payments to be made during fiscal years FY 2014 through FY 2017. Proposals will be asked to include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Description of project including the technologies to be used and major equipment
  • Net amount of electricity produced and estimated capacity factor
  • Total capital cost (including breakdown by cost elements)
  • Total capital funding assistance requested from TVA and detail on capital funding assistance per milestone
  • Project schedule and major milestones

TVA will be responsible for providing technical oversight and financial assistance while the industrial customers will be responsible for the actual engineering, design, construction and operation of the waste heat recovery system.
