Lebanon (Vesta Road), Tennessee

January 2014

TVA has evaluated several options for a new transmission line that will provide power to Middle Tennessee EMC’s new Vesta Road 161,000 volt Substation, which will in turn power new industry in the area.

The same considerations — environmental, engineering, and social — were used to assess each alternative. The reviews were based on available data, aerial photography, onsite reviews, public review and comment, and property owners' input. Based on these evaluations, TVA has identified alternative route segments 1, 2, 12 and 13 as the preferred route.

The new Vesta Road Substation would be located on the northeast corner of the Vesta Road/Couchville Pike - 840 interchange. TVA would provide power to the new substation via a 5-mile line from the Wilson-Lebanon 161-kilovolt Transmission Line. The preferred location for tapping the existing TVA transmission line is alternative #1, located near the Gladeville Substation off Franklin Road.

The line would consist of steel structures on a 100-foot-wide right of way. Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2015 with the transmission line in service fall 2015.

In keeping with TVA's environmental stewardship, appropriate National Environmental Policy Act review will be conducted.

September 2014

TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system in the Lebanon, Tennessee area.

Additional power is needed for growing industrial load in the area. Middle Tennessee EMC plans to build a new substation. TVA would build a transmission line to provide power to the substation.

TVA will hold an open house on September 12, 2013 to provide information, answer questions and accept comments about the proposed transmission line.

The proposed project consists of six to eight miles of new transmission line. The line would extend south from TVA’s existing Lebanon-Murfreesboro 161,000 volt line or west from TVA’s Wilson-Lebanon 161,000 volt line TVA is considering 19 alternative routes. The line would be built on steel pole structures centered on a 100-foot right-of-way. The project is expected to be in service June 2015. Construction would begin February 2015. (Dates are subject to change. During projects of this magnitude, unexpected issues may arise, resulting in the need to adjust the schedule.)

Public involvement

TVA's process for siting new transmission projects is designed to allow public input at all stages. TVA is committed to working with area stakeholders to address concerns during the course of the project. Comments received during the comment period were used in reaching a decision on the proposed action.

TVA held an open house in Lebanon on September 12, 2013 to discuss the proposed transmission line project. A 30-day comment period followed.

The map shows the preferred route TVA is considering for the proposed transmission line. The map is also available below as a PDF file. A PDF file of the network of alternative routes is also available below.

Environmental reviews

The appropriate National Environmental Policy Act review will be conducted to ensure that the environmental impacts are minimized. TVA attempts to minimize any land requirements, private property impacts, and environmental impacts associated with this project.
