John K. Matney

John Matney, of Bristol, Virginia, began a 30-year career in the coal industry in 1974 with the operation of several mining companies in Southwest Virginia, including Rapoca Energy Company which processed in excess of 1 million tons of high grade metallurgical and steam coal, annually.
Currently, John is president of The Harbor Company, which is the parent company of Harbor Club, a residential golf community located on 1,600 acres of lake property in Greensboro, Georgia. He is also President of Stearns Company, a mineral reserve leasing company located in McCreary County, Kentucky.
In addition, John is currently the managing partner in several gas companies with participating interest in over 300 gas wells in Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
John has served on the Virginia Coal Association Board, The Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America-Sequoia Council, The Virginia Workforce Council, The Board of Directors of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Council, The Board of Directors of the Bristol Regional Medical Center, the Wellmont Foundation Board of Directors and various fund-raising committees at the University of Virginia at Wise.
