Russell Townsend
Russ Townsend was appointed chair of the Regional Resource Stewardship Council in 2012. He currently serves as the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Previously, he was Director of the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore, Tennessee. Townsend has also worked as a professional archaeologist.
Townsend is a member of the Cultural and Heritage Committee for the United Southern and Eastern Tribes, the Society of American Archaeologists and the Southeastern Archaeological Conference. He holds a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma and an M.S. in Anthropology from the University of Tulsa, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in his field from the University of Tennessee.
