Gary Myers, (retired) was the Executive Director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). One of the longest serving leaders of a state conservation agency in United States history, Myers came to TWRA in 1974, after 11 years with the Colorado Game and Fish Department. Prior to his 1978 appointment as Executive Director, he served as Assistant Director of Field Operations.
Widely recognized by his peers and conservation organizations across the country, Myers is credited with leading the TWRA through a critical period in its history, and helping to preserving thousands upon thousands of acres in Tennessee—keeping, or putting, them in public hands.
Myers served on many national fish, wildlife, and boating committees and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Wildlife Management Institute’s 2008 George Bird Grinnell Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Natural Resource Conservation, the 2009 Bonner Award, and the 2008 Tennessee Outdoors Sportsman of the Year. These awards and honors recognize a person whose career in conservation has been exemplified by integrity, leadership, foresight, and achievement.
Myers holds a B.S and an M.S. degree in Wildlife Management from Colorado State University.
