Reassessment Of Impoundments
In the interest of taking a conservative, self-critical approach to ensuring the
safety of TVA’s storage impoundments across the system, TVA has done a
preliminarily reassessment of the potential hazard classifications of the
impoundments at each of its 11 fossil plants and the now-closed Watts Bar
plant.
The classifications do not measure the structural integrity of the facility or the possibility of whether a failure could occur. They are designed to identify where loss of life or significant economic or environmental damage could occur in the event of a failure.
