Protecting environmental & cultural resources
In managing its transmission rights of way TVA honors the spirit and the letter of all applicable environmental laws and regulations. Our environmental best management practices are very stringent and our guidelines concerning streams, birds and other wildlife are detailed and specific.
As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, before we do any vegetation management work in a transmission right of way, TVA assesses potential environmental impacts to confirm that none would be significant and to reduce or avoid impacts to sensitive areas. We also work with heritage groups to identify areas that may have important cultural or historical resources.
If issues or species of concern are identified in the area where we need to work, we take steps to avoid, reduce or mitigate any significant impacts that might result from the work.
