House Power Supply Upgrade
Update July 2014
TVA has evaluated several options for a new transmission line that will provide power to Central EPA's expanded House 161-kilovolt Substation. The improvements will replace obsolete equipment and provide more reliable power to the area.
The same considerations — environmental, engineering, and social — were used to assess each alternative. The reviews were based on available data, aerial photography, onsite reviews, public review and comment, and property owners' input. Based on these evaluations, TVA has identified alternative route number 2, the eastern-most route.
The House Substation is located on the north side of State Highway 492 approximately 2.7 miles southwest of House, Mississippi.. TVA would provide power to the new substation via about 10 miles of line from the Philadelphia-DeKalb 161-kilovolt Transmission Line. The preferred location for tapping the existing TVA transmission line is alternative #1, located near the Bloomo 161kV Substation off State Highway 436 approximately 5.5 miles southeast of Philadelphia, Mississippi.
The line would consist of steel structures on a 100-foot-wide right of way. Construction is scheduled to begin winter/spring 2018 with the transmission line in service summer 2018.
In keeping with TVA's environmental stewardship, appropriate National Environmental Policy Act review will be conducted.
Background March 2014
TVA is considering improvements to the transmission system in the Philadelphia, Mississippi area.
New transmission facilities are needed to replace outdated equipment. Central EPA plans to expand an existing substation and TVA would build a transmission line to provide power to the upgraded substation.
TVA held an open house on March 27, 2014 in Philadelphia to provide information, answer questions and receive comments about the project.
The map shows the network of alternative routes TVA is considering for the proposed transmission line. The map is also available below as a PDF file.

If you have questions or need help understanding the map, please contact TVA.
The appropriate National Environmental Policy Act review will be conducted to ensure that the environmental impacts are minimized. TVA attempts to minimize land requirements, private property impacts, and environmental impacts associated with this proposed project.
Dates are subject to change. During projects of this magnitude, unexpected issues may arise, resulting in the need to adjust the schedule.
