Release of lake sturgeon into the French Broad River

Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in East Knox County (Directions below)
TVA along with the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency with assistance from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and The University of Tennessee will be releasing hatchery raised lake sturgeon into the French Broad River in East Knox County. The release will be assisted by kids from nearby Gap Creek Elementary School. The fish to be released will range from 9 to 12-inches in length. Lake sturgeon are endangered in Tennessee and this program is reintroducing the species back in to the Tennessee River. Since 2000 over 70,000 lake sturgeons have been released in to the French Broad and Holston Rivers.
I-40 to Exit 402 (Midway Road).
From eastbound I-40, turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto Midway Road (toward Three Rivers Golf Course).
Turn left on to Maples Road.
Turn right on the intersection with Kodak Road.
Turn left on to Kelly Lane (White Bethel Church)
Follow Kelly Lane to the Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge
