TVA Donates Funds To West McCracken Fire Department

PADUCAH, Ky. – The Tennessee Valley Authority has donated $5,000 to the West McCracken Fire and Rescue Volunteer Department to buy new fire hoses and to support general programs at the department.

The West McCracken Fire and Rescue Volunteer Department provides first responder service to TVA’s Shawnee Fossil Plant in West Paducah.

“TVA understands and appreciates the importance of these officers who put their lives on the line in the communities we serve,” Shawnee Plant Manager Mike Kaler said. “The department is a valuable partner for TVA, both to our facility and to the region.”

Kaler said West McCracken Fire and Rescue is always responsive to the needs of the Shawnee Fossil Plant.

“We are the first responders not only to fires, but also to emergency medical calls and this funding will help us better serve the citizens of the area,” West McCracken Fire Chief Donald Elrod said.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
