Anchorage Marina to Receive Clean Marina Certification

Nov. 10, 2003

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. – Anchorage Marina on Guntersville Reservoir will fly the Clean Marina flag in recognition of its achievements in making Guntersville Reservoir a cleaner place.

A certificate and flag will be presented to Duane Sammons, owner-manager of Anchorage Marina. It is the second marina on Guntersville Reservoir to receive the Clean Marina certification.

“It is great to be able to recognize Anchorage Marina in their effort to protect our water resource,” said David Brewster, TVA’s Clean Marina coordinator for Guntersville Reservoir. “Anchorage Marina has been committed to controlling pollution and erosion before TVA initiated this program.”

Goose Pond Marina in Scottsboro, Ala., was the first marina on Guntersville Reservoir to achieve Clean Marina status. Both Anchorage and Goose Pond marinas voluntarily sought innovative measures to handle boat sewage. These marinas are designated as no-discharge, which prohibits the release of treated and untreated sewage within their harbor limits. For more information on the Clean Marina program, contact David Brewster at 256-571-4283. Also see the clean boating page on this site.
