Lake Ocoee Inn Marina to Receive Clean Marina CertificationNov. 10, 2003BENTON, Tenn.— Lake Ocoee Inn Marina on Ocoee No. 1 Reservoir will fly the Clean Marina flag soon in recognition of its efforts to preserve and protect water quality in the Ocoee River. Jerry Hamby is the owner of Lake Ocoee Inn Marina, which is the first marina in the Hiwassee Watershed to receive the Clean Marina designation. To receive the designation, marinas must meet all federal, state, and local regulations related to marina management. They must also implement a number of recommended practices to minimize pollution and encourage boaters to become effective stewards of the water resources. “Lake Ocoee Inn Marina has demonstrated particularly innovative approaches to addressing pollution prevention and fast response to spills and emergencies,” said TVA Watershed representative Scott Lea. “We commend Mr. Hamby and the marina staff for their achievements.” Hamby has recently upgraded and added new facilities to the marina and has incorporated many practices to control and reduce pollutants before they enter the reservoir.
