TVA Requests Comments on Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan
August 21, 2008
BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. – TVA will hold an open house on Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Blairsville to receive public comments on an environmental review of a plan that will guide the use of TVA-managed land on nine mountain reservoirs.
TVA staff has completed the draft environmental impact statement for the Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan and is asking for public comments on alternatives for managing reservoir property on Apalachia, Blue Ridge, Chatuge, Fontana, Hiwassee, Nottely, Ocoee 1, Ocoee 2 and Ocoee 3 reservoirs.
TVA develops land management plans for reservoirs to provide clear direction on how TVA intends to manage the reservoir land and to facilitate decision-making for use of the public land.
The open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT at the Blairsville Campus of North Georgia Technical College. The public is encouraged to attend all or part of the meeting.
During the open house the public will be able to review the alternatives TVA staff has developed with public input for use of the TVA-managed lands. The public will be able to view maps that show current designated land uses and how the land would be managed according to each alternative.
The draft environmental impact statement and maps that provide detail on parcels of land on each reservoir also may be reviewed on line at www.tva.com/environment/reports/mtnres/. The public may provide comments on the proposed alternatives either in writing during the meeting, by calling toll-free, 1-866-601-4612, or on the Web site.
The public comment period ends Sept. 29, 2008. All comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and will be available for public inspection.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self financing.
