TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed East Knox County Transmission Project
July 3, 2008
STRAWBERRY PLAINS, Tenn. -- To provide continued reliable electric service to the growing area and relieve overloaded equipment, TVA is planning improvements to its transmission system in East Knox County.
Public input on the planned improvements is encouraged, beginning with an open house in Knoxville on July 10. The open house will be held from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Carter High School Cafeteria at 210 North Carter School Road in Strawberry Plains.
Improvements would include a new switching station and about 14 miles of 161- kilovolt transmission lines. The lines will extend from the new switching station, to be located near the Midway Interchange of I-40, north to TVA’s existing Volunteer Substation and south to TVA’s Nixon Road-Dumplin Valley transmission line.
A total of 22 possible different route segments are being considered for the lines. TVA will present the alternative routes for the transmission lines at the open house. Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the power line and possible switching station locations will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map is available.
