Watts Bar Shutdown (Update)

TVA's Watts Bar Unit 1 resumed operation at 2:23 a.m. on August 30, after repairs to a fault in an electrical instrumentation panel led to the shut down of the reactor on August 28. All systems responded as designed and the unit will perform a series of measured power increases until it returns to full output.

August 28, 2012

TVA's Watts Bar Unit 1 was shut down at 3:32 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, due to a fault in one of the unit's instrumentation systems. All reactor safety systems responded as designed and there was never any danger to plant employees or the general public. The unit is now being held in a safe configuration pending an investigation of the cause of the fault. Plant personnel will make any necessary repairs and the unit will then be restored to operation.
