TVA Seeks Comments on Proposed Burkesville Transmission Line Project

August 20, 2010

BURKESVILLE, Ky. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public comments on a proposed transmission line project that will improve reliability of the power supply for south Cumberland County, Ky.

TVA proposes constructing 8 to 9 miles of 161-kilovolt transmission line to power Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation’s upgraded Burkesville Substation. The line would extend south from TVA’s existing 161-kilovolt transmission line at Summer Shade-Wolf Creek.

TVA is considering several alternate routes from a network of 13 possible line segments and three tap points.

The public is encouraged to comment on the proposed upgrades and alternate routes at an open house in Burkesville on Aug. 26, 3-7 p.m. CDT, in the Cumberland County High School cafeteria, 912 North Main St.

Detailed maps showing the alternate routes for the proposed power line will be available at the meeting and TVA staff will be present to hear comments, answer questions and discuss potential concerns. More information about the project and a map showing alternate routes are available at www.tva.com/power/projects.

People who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments to Missy Davis at TVA by calling 800-362-4355, or by e-mail, newtransline@tva.com. Written comments also can be mailed to Davis at 1101 Market St., MR 4G, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37402-2801. The deadline is Sept. 23.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
