TVA To Present Draft Integrated Resource Plan in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Tennessee Valley Authority will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 5, to present the draft Integrated Resource Plan, a comprehensive study that will help guide efforts to meet regional electricity needs over the next 20 years.
Titled “TVA’s Environmental and Energy Future,” the plan’s main purpose is to help TVA meet the region’s future electricity needs in ways that maintain reliable power supplies, competitive prices, improved environmental performance and continued financial strength.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. CDT at the Holiday Inn and Sloan Convention Center, 1021 Wilkinson Trace. Public comments are encouraged on the draft plan.
An executive summary and complete copy of the draft plan and its associated Environmental Impact Statement are available for review on TVA’s website at www.tva.com/irp.
A panel of representatives from TVA will present the draft plan, take comments and answer questions from the public during the meeting.
To increase public participation, the meeting also will be accessible on the Internet. Participants will be able to listen to the presentation and send in comments and questions from their home computers through a webinar conference option. Panel members will respond to those in attendance during the meeting and to those on the webinar, so all participants can hear the answers.
Internet participants should register in advance at www.tva.com/environment/reports/irp. A confirmation e-mail will be sent after registration with further instructions.
Comments may also be made through a court reporter at the meeting for those who do not want to speak publicly and via TVA’s website. Written comments may also be sent to Charles Nicholson, NEPA Project Manager, 400 West Summit Hill Dr., WT 11D, Knoxville, Tenn. 37902. The comment period ends Monday, Nov. 8.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for utility and business customers in most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia – an area of 80,000 square miles with a population of 9 million. TVA operates 29 hydroelectric dams, 11 coal-fired power plants, three nuclear plants and 11 natural gas-fired power facilities and supplies up to 33,700 megawatts of electricity, delivered over 16,000 miles of high-voltage power lines. TVA also provides flood control, navigation, land management and recreation for the Tennessee River system and works with local utilities and state and local governments to promote economic development across the region. TVA, which makes no profits and receives no taxpayer money, is funded by sales of electricity to its customers. Electricity prices in TVA’s service territory are below the national average.
