Federal Employees to Assist 35 Agencies During Annual CFC Day of Caring

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- More than 400 federal employees are scheduled to work in Chattanooga area service agencies Friday, Aug. 27, during the Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign’s 18th Annual Day of Caring.

“The Combined Federal Campaign’s Day of Caring continues to grow each year,” said Ashok Bhatnagar, TVA senior vice president of Nuclear Generation Development & Construction, and chairman of the 2010 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign. “This year we are making a special effort to get our younger generation employees involved in the Combined Federal Campaign. The Day of Caring is a great way to see how the fruits of your labor help your community.”

Employees will provide hands-on assistance for various requested projects – such as painting, building, cleaning, landscaping and cooking – at 35 local non-profit service agencies that receive contributions from the Combined Federal Campaign.

The Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign includes about 9,300 federal employees in 21 counties in East Tennessee, northeast Alabama, northwest Georgia and western North Carolina. Each year, federal employees have the opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations of their choice through the Combined Federal Campaign. Established in 1961 as a result of President Kennedy’s efforts, the Combined Federal Campaign has become the nation’s leading workplace giving program, raising more money for charity than any other annual employee-giving program.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
