TVA to Hold Public Open House on Muscle Shoals Reservation Redevelopment

July 8, 2009

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – TVA will hold an open house to discuss the redevelopment of the Muscle Shoals Reservation from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at Muscle Shoals High School.

The meeting is being held to receive public comments on the scope of redevelopment to occur on approximately 1,380 acres of TVA’s Muscle Shoals Reservation property. TVA will work with the Northwest Alabama Cooperative District on the possible redevelopment of the property.

TVA will not sell nor develop walking trails or public use areas north of Reservation Road but will consider permitting enhancement of those areas for public use.

TVA and NACD are interested in comments from the public to help determine the scope of the project, the potential for and type of economic development opportunities on the reservation, and the possible effect of redevelopment on the environment, historic properties and to identify other issues associated with the effort. TVA will prepare an environmental impact statement as part of the process.

To provide comments on the scope of the redevelopment effort, the public can go to TVA’s Web site or attend the meeting. Any comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and available for public inspection.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 9 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
