TVA To Close One Lane Across Norris Dam

September 11, 2009

Knoxville, Tenn. – The southbound lane of Highway 441 across Norris Dam will be closed to traffic beginning Sept. 28 to allow TVA workers to refurbish the spillway gates at the dam.

The lane will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for approximately six months. Red lights will be installed at each end of the construction zone to allow one lane of traffic at a time. The lights will begin flashing yellow on Sept. 14. Warning signs will also be posted on both sides of the dam to alert motorists to slow down.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 9 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also creates economic development opportunities and manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
