August 10, 2009
Nashville, Tenn. – TVA has appointed Kristi Brown as community development project manager for economic development in the seven-state Tennessee Valley region.
Brown will work with local power distributors, community leaders, and regional, state and local economic development partners to help create, sustain and foster job growth. Her responsibilities include developing and delivering a broad range of services and programs to prepare Tennessee Valley communities for greater economic growth opportunities. These programs include leadership development, team-building workshops, strategic planning, technology assessments and preparation for visits to the region by prospective businesses.
Before joining TVA, Brown started her own consulting and life coaching business, Upside Brown Consulting, LLC, that provided public relations, marketing consulting, training and coaching to public and private sector clients. Previously, she served for five years as vice president of chamber and community development for the Greater Starkville Development Partnership in Starkville, Mississippi, and as executive director of a local tourism organization.
Brown has a master’s and undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and is certified by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute of Organizational Management for chamber management and by the Southeast Tourism Society as a tourism marketing professional.
“Kristi’s expertise and knowledge about working with local communities will greatly benefit our economic development programs,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. “Her enthusiasm and talent will be key to our continuing success in partnering to bring new businesses and jobs to the region and servicing existing businesses.”
TVA, working with local power distributors, Valley communities, regional and state economic development partners, helped retain or attract some 42,000 jobs in the fiscal year 2008 and leveraged capital investments of $5.5 billion in our region. Economic development is a major part of TVA’s core mission. More information about TVA’s economic development efforts is available at TVAed.com.
