TVA To Close One Lane Across Chickamauga Dam - May 3-5

May 1, 2013

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - One lane of the four lanes of Highway 153 Bridge across the Chickamauga Dam (Wilkes T. Thrasher Bridge) will be closed to traffic this weekend starting Friday evening.

The far right northbound lane across the dam will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. EDT, Friday, May 3 and will remain closed until work is completed late Sunday, May 5. Traffic in the other three lanes will not be affected.

During the closure, core drilling will be conducted as part of TVA’s continuous improvement “Health Check” campaign now underway at all 49 TVA dams.

Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider another route. Signs will be placed at both ends of the bridge to alert traffic to find an alternate route. In the event of inclement weather, the work may be extended or rescheduled.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for business customers and distribution utilities that serve 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
