TVA Donates $2,000 for Sustainability Workshop at Western Kentucky University

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Tennessee Valley Authority recently donated $2,000 to Western Kentucky University to support an upcoming faculty workshop on environmental sustainability.
“TVA’s support of this activity is directly related to our long-standing mission of environmental stewardship, including sustainability,” Anda Ray, senior vice president for Environment and Technology, said.
“Sustainability is about embracing opportunities and managing risks from economic, environmental and social developments, all part of the value TVA provides to the areas we serve.”
The retreat, titled “Sustainability Across the Curriculum,” is being held June 8–9 at Barren River Lake State Park and is sponsored by the university’s Center for Environmental Education and Sustainability.
Western Kentucky faculty will learn from experts and each other about concepts, programs and resources to help them incorporate sustainability messages into their classes. The program is part of the university’s strategic plan to become a model for environmental stewardship. The school is also offering several degrees and curricula to support the effort.
Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, a TVA power distributor, provided additional support for the program.
The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
