Swan Pond Circle Road Bypass Opens in Mid-June

HARRIMAN, Tenn. -- Motorists on Swan Pond Circle Road near the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Kingston Fossil Plant will be routed onto a temporary bypass beginning in mid-June to allow construction of a bridge for local traffic to avoid trucks hauling coal ash from Swan Pond Embayment.

As part of the next phase of the Kingston ash recovery project, TVA is building the bridge on Swan Pond Circle Road so trucks removing ash from the embayment can pass under the main road and not interfere with local traffic. To build the bridge, TVA must temporarily divert traffic off Swan Pond Circle Road onto a bypass that has just been completed.

Swan Pond Circle Road near Berkshire Road will be closed for about two days beginning Wednesday, June 16, so the bypass can be connected. During this period, motorists can access Swan Pond Circle Road at its northernmost intersection with Swan Pond Road.

After that, traffic will be diverted onto the bypass for the six to eight weeks needed to build the bridge. The affected section of Swan Pond Circle Road then will be reopened and the bypass will be removed.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
