TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

June 3, 2009

RAINSVILLE, Ala. – To continue providing reliable power to the growing area, TVA is proposing improvements to its transmission system in DeKalb County in Alabama.

Public input on the proposed improvements is encouraged, beginning with an open house in Rainsville, June 11.

Improvements include a proposed new Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative substation and two to three miles of new TVA 161-kilovolt transmission line. The line would extend from TVA’s existing Goose Pond - Fort Payne 161-kilovolt transmission line south to the substation site in Rainsville. Several alternative routes from a network of 16 possible line segments are being considered for the proposed line.

TVA will present the alternative routes at an open house from 3-7 p.m. CDT at the Broadway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 99 McCurdy Ave. South in Rainsville. Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the proposed power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map is available.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Chris Columber, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s Web site. The deadline for comments is July 13.
