TVA Reviews Proposal To Deliver Coal to Gallatin Fossil Plant via RailJune 7, 2005 GALLATIN, Tenn. – TVA will hold a public open house on Tuesday, June 21, on a draft Environmental Assessment of a proposal to deliver coal to Gallatin Fossil Plant by rail instead of barge. The open house is planned from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gallatin City Hall basement at 132 West Main St. The purpose of the open house is to obtain comments from the public on the proposed change in how coal is delivered to the plant. TVA staff will be available to provide information and answer questions on the proposal and the environmental impacts. Initial estimates indicate that switching to rail delivery will save TVA customers millions of dollars a year. A copy of the draft Environmental Assessment is available here. Comments can be sent to Dave Robinson, TVA - MR 2T, 1101 Market St., Chattanooga, TN 37402 or dwrobins@tva.gov. Comments will be received through June 27. The Gallatin Fossil Plant has four units with a total capacity of about 990 megawatts -- enough power to serve more than a half million homes. It is one of 11 TVA fossil plants and burns approximately 3.5 million tons of coal a year. TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
