John J. McCormick Jr.
Senior Vice President, River Operations
John McCormick was named senior vice president of TVA’s River Operations group in June 2010.
McCormick is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 29 hydroelectric dams, 20 non-power dams, a pumped-storage plant and 14 navigation locks in support of TVA’s mission to manage the region’s natural water resources and provide low-cost, cleaner energy.
McCormick previously served as senior vice president of operations for TVA’s Fossil Power Group, responsible for business, engineering and operation of 59 operating units at 11 fossil plants. He was also responsible for 87 peaking combustion turbines, six combined-cycle units, and 13 diesel generators. In addition, he led the group’s industrial services function, which provides field and shop services to fossil and nuclear sites in the TVA service region.
McCormick joined TVA in December 2007 as vice president of operations for the Fossil Power Group.
McCormick has 28 years of experience in the power industry. Prior to joining TVA, he spent more than 25 years with Exelon, where he served as director of operations, responsible for operations at six fossil plants and two hydro facilities in four states with a combined capacity of 10,000 megawatts. McCormick previously served as general manager of gas, coal and hydro fleet generation assets.
McCormick graduated from Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades with an associate degree in electric power technology and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Widener University.
McCormick and his wife, Patricia, have one son.
