Peyton T. Hairston Jr.

Peyton T. Hairston Jr. was named TVA's senior vice president of Diversity and Labor Relations in January 2010. He is also TVA's chief ethics officer and designated agency ethics official.

Hairston leads the organization responsible for strengthening TVA's labor relations and diversity and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. He is also responsible for promoting an ethical culture at TVA.

Hairston has amassed broad senior leadership experience since joining TVA in 1993. Before his current appointment, he served as senior vice president for Corporate Responsibility and Diversity from 2007 to 2010 and as senior vice president of Communications from 2006 to 2007.

Previously, Hairston was senior vice president of Employee Relations and Diversity from 2005 to 2006. From 1994 to 1998 and again from 2000 to 2005, he was senior vice president of Labor Relations.

Between 1998 and 2000, Hairston led TVA's Strategic Initiatives office as senior vice president.

Before joining TVA, Hairston was senior labor counsel for Chiquita Brands International in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Hairston is active in the Knoxville community, serving on the boards of directors for the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation, Knoxville Area Urban League and Junior Achievement.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Hairston earned his bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University and his law degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law.

Hairston and his wife, Tanya, have two grown children, Ashley and Peyton III.
