Doing the right thing… all the time
What would you do in the following situations?
- It’s the weekend and you and your family are dining out. A TVA vendor you work with is also dining there and offers to pay your bill.
- You’re just a few months shy of retirement. Do you help a contractor you’d like to work for later get a project with TVA now?
- You’re thinking about borrowing some TVA tools – for just a few days – to finish up a home project.
- You’ve performed a certain process correctly hundreds of times; do you sidestep the extra safety checks?
We may think we know the right direction to take in these scenarios, but do we really?
To encourage the right choice in ethical dilemmas, refresher training on ethics is now required for all TVA employees. The computer-based course is interactive, lively and user-friendly. Employees will receive the new Code of Conduct handbook as a useful reference for the training and for later questions.
The program theme, “Doing the right thing — all the time,” recognizes that ethical behavior is about choice and consistency. “Every employee can and does influence TVA’s reputation by either what we do or what we fail to do,” says Peyton Hairston, senior vice president, Corporate Responsibility & Diversity and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer.
The new handbooks will be mailed in late August. Enrollment is available through Self Service Solutions beginning Sept. 1. All employees are encouraged to complete the training by Dec. 31.
For special training requirements, talk with your supervisor or Human Resource representative.
