Florence UtilitiesFlorence Utilities

Florence Water Treatment Facility is the site of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system that began producing electricity for Green Power Switch on August 29, 2002. The solar array has 216 PV modules that are mounted on a canopy structure located in the parking lot. The array can produce about 53,480 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to supply three or four typical Tennessee Valley homes.

The energy generated at the site goes into the electric system of the City of Florence Utilities, then to the TVA power grid. The City of Florence Utilities, Muscle Shoals Electric Board, Sheffield Utilities, and Tuscumbia Electric Department are the local distributors in the area that currently offer Green Power Switch to their customers.
