Cocke County High SchoolCocke County High School

The solar photovoltaic (PV) generating system at the Cocke County High School in Newport, Tennessee, will be useful in just about any type of weather. When the sun is shining, the system will generate electricity for the TVA power grid. When it’s raining, the canopy on which the PV modules are mounted will provide cover for spectators at the school’s soccer field. The 10-kilowatt system has 240 PV modules, and will produce enough electricity for one average home in the TVA service territory.

Cocke County High School’s mission is to help students lay a foundation for lifelong learning. The PV system will enable the school to teach many students about the capacities and environmental benefits of solar power. TVA’s partner in constructing the system is Newport Utilities, the local distributor of TVA power.
