Students energized for action
The students held a press conference in front of the University of Tennessee’s recently installed demonstration wind turbine and solar array and then traveled to Buffalo Mountain to visit the TVA wind power site. The conference opener included a presentation by Christian Turner, the United Kingdom’s First Secretary on Energy and the Environment, and a screening of the documentary film Kilowatt Our. The film’s producer, Jeff Barrie, led a discussion after the film. Representatives from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Sierra Club, American Lung Association, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Department of Energy, and others participated in the conference sessions. The students devised strategies to promote clean energy use in their communities and created a working group of nearly 300 activists who will carry out these projects.
