Memphis utility now offers GPS
The solar generating site at the new Bridges USA facility in Memphis was dedicated on April 20. Joining in for the ribbon cutting were, left to right, James Boyd, President of Bridges USA;Becky Wilson, Bridges USA board member;Jim Keiffer, Senior Vice President, TVA Marketing; Joseph Lee III, President and CEO of Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division; Chris Bieber,Vice President of Engineering at MLGW;and Gary Harris, General Manager, TVA Western District. Environmentally conscious Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division customers can now choose to purchase power generated from renewable energy resources like wind, solar, and methane gas. MLGW joins 79 other utilities in offering TVA’s Green Power Switch option to its customers. The launch of the green power program began on April 20 with the dedication of the solar panel array at the headquarters building of Bridges, a youth leadership training organization. The Bridges building is the only structure in Memphis to generate solar power under the Green Power Switch Generation Partners program. The panels use sunlight to produce electricity, which is added to the TVA power grid.
