Total Monthly Fuel Cost

May 2012

For billing periods beginning May 1, 2012, the total monthly fuel cost will change from the current amount of 2.163 cents per kilowatt-hour to 2.311 cents per kilowatt-hour. Compared to April, this will increase the current total average wholesale rate by 2.1% and will increase monthly residential bills between $1.00 and $3.00, depending on usage levels.

A primary reason for the increase in the total monthly fuel cost is the forecast for warmer temperatures and higher electricity sales in May, which will result in higher fuel and purchased power costs for TVA.

Although this represents an increase in the total monthly fuel cost, May’s total monthly fuel cost remains below the 12-month average and is 1.5% lower than the fuel charge from May 2011.
