Washington County Service Authority Intake
Washington County, Virginia
On December 1, 2006, TVA issued a final environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for the Washington County Service Authority’s (WCSA) proposed new water intake. The new water intake requires a TVA Section 26a permit. TVA issued this permit on December 12, 2006.
The WCSA proposal involves the construction and operation of 12 million gallon per day raw water intake and pump station at South Fork Holston River Mile 72.5 (right bank), about 150 feet upstream of the confluence of the Middle Fork Holston River, in southwest Virginia. The purpose of the proposed intake is to provide increased withdrawal capacity for the Washington County Water Treatment Plant in order to meet future municipal water supply demands. TVA’s environmental assessment focuses on potential impacts to water quality and quantity, aquatic ecology, and historic properties.
