Starkville and Columbus, Mississippi – Power Supply Improvement
Lowndes and Oktibbeha Counties, Mississippi
On July 9, 2010, TVA issued an environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for its proposal to construct and operate a 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and a switching station to improve the existing power supply system in the Golden Triangle area of Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties, Mississippi, and to provide a second 161-kV feed to 4-County Electric Power Association’s (EPA) Catalpa Creek Substation. The proposed 14-mile 161-kV transmission line would provide an electrical connection from TVA’s SeverCorr 161-kV Switching Station to TVA’s Starkville 161-kV Switching Station through the new Clayton Village 161-kV Switching Station.
The transmission line would utilize mostly single-pole steel structures on new 100-foot right-of-way occupying about 170 acres. The switching station would occupy approximately 19 acres and would be located adjacent to the 4-County EPA’s existing Lakeside Substation and TVA’s West Point-Midway 161-kV Transmission Line. A short transmission line connection would also be constructed from TVA’s existing West Point-Midway 161-kV Transmission Line into the new switching station. Additionally, various minor modifications would be made to existing facilities in connection with the proposal.
