Private Water Use Facilities on the Hiwassee River

The lower Hiwassee River supports a large, healthy population of federally threatened snail darters. To minimize the potential for individual and cumulative impacts to this species from the increased number of approved shoreline alterations, and to streamline the Section 26a review process, TVA has established a set of standards and guidelines for construction of private water use facilities that are specific to the Hiwassee River between miles 20.0 and 42.5.
