As a public power company and steward of the Tennessee Valley’s natural resources, TVA has broad environmental responsibilities. In meeting those important public responsibilities, TVA works to continually refine and improve its performance. This report outlines TVA’s performance over the past two years, its successes, and the challenges it faces in areas where work still remains to be done.

TVA’s six environmental principles form the framework of this report.

Management commitment

Members of the TVA Board respond to questions about TVA's environmental performance.

Environmental protection and stewardship

TVA works to protect water quality, reduce shoreline erosion, and promote wise use of the public lands under its care.

Pollution prevention

Providing consumers with cleaner methods of power production has brought both successes and setbacks. TVA also supports wise energy use and the reuse and recycling of waste products.

Environmental compliance

TVA reports on its investments and achievements to date in improving air quality and the challenges it faces, and details several reportable environmental events for the two-year period.

Partnerships and public involvement

TVA works with other agencies, groups, and the public to protect and preserve the Valley’s natural and cultural resources.

Innovation and technology

TVA continues to research and develop technologies that lessen the impact of power production and use on natural resources.

In addition, the articles listed under Stay Connected (at right and on each page of the report) provide further details on TVA environmental initiatives.
