Burkesville, KY 161-Kilovolt Transmission Line
Cumberland County, Kentucky
On March 9, 2012, TVA issued an environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for its proposal to construct and operate a 161‑kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Cumberland County, Kentucky. This new transmission line would supply electric power to the Burkesville Substation, which is being upgraded from 69-kV to 161-kV by the Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation (TCEMC), a local distributor of TVA power. The new transmission line would connect TCEMC’s substation to TVA’s existing Wolf Creek Hydro Plant (HP)-Summer Shade 161-kV Transmission Line.
The transmission line would be constructed on 8.5 miles of new 100-foot-wide right-of-way and would occupy approximately 103 acres. TVA would also install three switch structures. Two switch structures would be installed within the Wolf Creek HP-Summer Shade 161-kV Transmission Line and the other would be installed within the right-of-way for the new transmission line. TVA would update displays at its control centers in Chattanooga to indicate the status of the new facilities.
Additional information on the project is available including background information, maps, and a project schedule.
