New Transmission Line to Bolivar Substation

Hardeman County, Tennessee

The Tennessee Valley Authority is proposing to build a 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line tap from its Hickory Valley-Selmer 161-kV transmission line to its Bolivar Substation near Bolivar in Hardeman County, Tennessee. The proposed line would be about five miles long and would use single-pole steel structures on new 100-foot wide right-of-way. TVA also plans to expand the switchyard at the Bolivar Substation and build a 400-foot long span from the Bolivar Substation to the Bolivar Electric Department’s new West Bolivar Substation.

The proposed action would improve transmission system reliability by effectively separating the 64-mile long Hickory Valley-Selmer transmission line into two segments. Either segment could serve the entire load if the other segment were out of service. TVA prepared an environmental assessment and has determined that there would be no significant potential effects from implementing the proposed action.
