Algood 161-kV Transmission Line
Putnam County, Tennessee
On May 8, 2008, TVA issued a Finding of No Significant Impact and Final Environmental Assessment for the Algood transmission line project.
The proposed 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line would be approximately 5.5 miles long. It would supply power from TVA’s existing West Cookeville-Peavine 161-kV transmission line to a new Algood 161-kV substation being constructed by the Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC). This new substation will replace the existing UCEMC 69-kV Algood substation. TVA also proposes to sell a 1.6-mile segment of the existing West Cookeville-East Cookeville-Algood 69-kV transmission line to UCEMC.
A draft of the Environmental Assessment was available for public comment from November 29, 2007 through January 15, 2008. TVA has addressed the comments in the Final Environmental Assessment and, in response to public and agency comments, made changes to the proposed line route to avoid a historic road.
