Environmental Technologies

TVA addresses complex environmental issues associated with energy production by developing and applying environmental technologies, conducting research on emerging environmental issues, and providing compliance support to TVA operating organizations.

We work closely with other federal and state agencies and private institutions. Our projects require expertise in many different areas, such as constructed wetlands technology for water and wastewater treatment, utilization of coal-combustion by-products, aircraft field studies of atmospheric chemistry, carbon sequestration, and pollutant sensor development. Externally funded projects are often carried out through partnerships formed among multiple organizations.
