Emissions
Widows Creek Fossil Plant
What TVA is doing about emissions at Widows Creek
TVA has taken a number of steps to make the efficient generation of power at Widows Creek as clean as possible:
- Units 7 and 8 are equipped with wet limestone scrubbers to remove particulates and SO2 emissions. These units also use low-NOx burners to reduce the production of NOx, which contributes to the formation of ozone and acid rain.
- TVA has installed selective catalytic reduction systems on units 7 and 8 to further reduce NOx emissions during the May to September ozone season.
- As of Oct. 1, 2011, the plant’s six other units have been idled in accordance with an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency, state environmental agencies and other parties.
